ICYMI: October Edition

Lots of exciting things happened this past month! Curious about what ONE Campus was up to? Stay plugged in with the latest ICYMI.

The BUILD Act is now law

Earlier this year ONE asked you to support and campaign on the BUILD Act, anact that helps create jobs in Africa by making it easier for American entrepreneurs to do business there. Knowing that the best tool for fighting extreme poverty is a good job, ONE Campus members hosted events, tabled and wrote letters to their Senators advocating for the passage of this act. Thanks to all of your hard work, the BUILD Act was signed into law on October 5th, 2018 (also World Teachers’ Day!).

World’s Largest Lesson

Speaking of World Teachers’ Day, the World’s Largest Lesson [hyperlink to WLL recap] campaign culminated on October 5th with members tweeting about the Global Goals, teaching lessons on the Global Goals and generating actions all over the world.  A lesson was even taught here at ONE’s Washington, DC office on Global Goal #5 (Gender Equality). The ONE Campus team was thrilled to see all of the letters written throughout this campaign and hope you all continue to educate your peers on the Global Goals in the future.

International Day of the Girl

On October 11th, ONE Campus members celebrated International Day of the Girl, with our  #PovertyIsSexist campaign to remind everyone that we must continue to advocate for the rights of women and girls everywhere. If you haven’t seen it, check out our awesome #PovertyIsSexist video and these exclusive #DayoftheGirl wallpapers.

Global Fund Campaign kick off

ONE Campus released its latest toolkit as part of The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. With this toolkit, campus members have been writing postcards and tweeting to Secretary Pompeo asking him to ensure the FY2020 budget stays consistent with President Trump’s campaign commitment. From hosting events to tabling, ONE Campus is excited to see how ONE members will generate actions and get the word out that AIDS is still a crisis.
